Teresa Ribera, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for a Clean, Fair and Competitive Transition, visited the Nordex Group’s corporate headquarters and Global Technical Academy in Hamburg on 20 May 2026. CEO José Luis Blanco and CFO Dr Ilya Hartmann hosted the visit, presenting Nordex’s role as a leading European onshore wind manufacturer.

The visit underscored the European Commission’s priority of accelerating renewable energy deployment as a cornerstone of European energy security. Discussions focused on the strategic importance of wind energy in reducing structural dependence on imported fossil fuels, stabilising electricity prices for consumers, and bolstering Europe’s long-term industrial competitiveness.

Ribera was direct on the stakes: “Renewable energy — and wind in particular — is not stuck in the Strait of Hormuz. This moment can be a turning point for Europe: accelerating renewables, investing massively in European clean technologies, expanding our grids and electrifying faster. That is the path to more security, stability and competitiveness for Europe’s people.”

Blanco framed wind energy as a strategic industrial technology rather than merely a climate solution. “Wind strengthens Europe’s energy security and reduces Europe’s vulnerability to external shocks,” he said. The Nordex Technical Academies provide standardised training for engineers and technicians globally. Of the company’s 11,100 employees worldwide, 8,200 are based in Europe.
