The Klaipėda State Seaport Authority has opened a tender for construction works on the southern expansion of Lithuania’s largest port, a project expected to create 100 hectares of new land in the Curonian Lagoon and lift the port’s annual cargo capacity to around 30 million tonnes.
The scope covers a 1,300-metre quay, a new breakwater, dredging of the port waters, relocation of a 110kV overhead power line underground, stormwater drainage systems and shoreline protection works near Kiaulės Nugara Island.
“Contractors who will build the breakwaters are already on site, and we are now taking another major step towards turning this ambitious idea into reality by launching the construction tender for the entire area,” said Algis Latakas, Director General of the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority.
Nearly €600 million is allocated to the project under the port’s 2026–2029 Strategic Plan, its largest single investment item. Including expected private investment, the total value of the development is projected to exceed €1 billion. Earlier this month the Lithuanian government approved the procedure for leasing the new area through a competitive tender, and an international tender to select an operator for the future site is planned later this year.
