TAURON has commissioned the Mierzyn wind farm, thereby achieving 0.5 GW of onshore installed capacity. The power plant, with a total capacity of 58.5 MW, is located in the municipality of Karlino, in the West Pomeranian province. Production from the latest power plant will meet the energy needs of 68,000 households.
– The expansion of the generation portfolio based on onshore facilities contributes to the TAURON Group’s energy transformation. Wind power is a good complement to generation from prosumer installations and large-scale photovoltaic farms. The commissioning of our 12th wind farm has translated into an increase in installed capacity in this technology to 506 MW – says Michał Orłowski, Vice President of the Management Board for Asset Management and Development.
A total of 15 turbines, each with a capacity of 3.9 MW, were erected in the municipality of Karlino. The height of each wind tower is 134 m and the rotor diameter is 131 m.
The expected average annual energy production from the installation is estimated at around 160 GWh. This will result in approximately 140,000 tonnes less CO2 being released into the atmosphere than if the same amount of electricity were generated by conventional generation sources. The weight of a single wind turbine is more than 600 t.
In addition, as part of the construction of the Mierzyn wind power plant, TAURON built several kilometres of access roads and manoeuvring yards with a total area of over 70,000 m2. Also, 10 km of underground 30 kV cable lines were laid within the farm, and the entire construction took just over two years.
– Thanks to the work of our team and the teams of the contractor, turbine supplier, contract engineer and with the support of the local authorities and communities, we are bringing new green power generation capacity online. Investing in clean energy sources is our joint responsibility. I would like to thank everyone for their commitment and the trust they have placed in us – adds Monika Piątkiewicz, Vice President of the Management Board of TAURON Zielona Energia.
At the same time, TAURON will commission two more wind farms – Warblewo (30 MW) and Gamów (33 MW) – by the end of 2024, and is building three other onshore installations – Miejska Górka (190 MW), Sieradz (24 MW) and Nowa Brzeźnica (20 MW). In addition, TAURON is working on the commissioning of three photovoltaic farms with a total capacity of 199 MW.
