Helm Operations, a fleet management software provider based in Victoria, British Columbia, announced on 18 May 2026 that its Helm CONNECT Logbook product has received official recognition from the United States Coast Guard (USCG). The confirmation that the digital logbook meets federal standards for commercial vessel record keeping gives US operators a fully accepted alternative to traditional paper logs for the first time.
The company, which serves more than 400 operators and 10,000 vessels worldwide across passenger, harbour towage, barging, and offshore support sectors, said the certification removes the last regulatory barrier for US commercial operators seeking to go fully digital. Helm CONNECT Logbook connects vessel crews and shore-based teams in real time, ensuring both sides access the same up-to-date information and eliminating the delays and transcription errors that paper systems routinely create.
“This recognition reflects years of close collaboration with our customers and a deep commitment to building software that meets the real-world demands of commercial vessel operations,” said James Wadsworth, CEO of Helm Operations. “For US operators, this removes the last barrier to going fully digital and we are proud to be the solution they can trust to get them there.”
Helm CONNECT Logbook is part of the broader Helm CONNECT Logistics module, which centralises vessel operations including dispatching, job tracking, and billing on a single platform. Helm Operations has been developing maritime software since 1999 and today counts more than 400 operators across North America and beyond as clients.
For offshore wind operators in the Baltic and North Sea, the USCG recognition signals that digital vessel compliance software has reached regulatory maturity. As fleet documentation requirements tighten for crew transfer and maintenance vessels supporting offshore installations, certifications of this kind may influence the trajectory of European maritime authority frameworks as well.
