A high-level Indian business delegation led by Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal visited Finland on 16–17 July 2026, with clean energy and sustainable development among the central themes alongside digital and advanced technologies, advanced manufacturing and the food industry.
On the first day, Goyal held bilateral meetings with Finnish Finance Minister Riikka Purra and Economic Affairs Minister Sakari Puisto, and joined a business roundtable at the House of the Estates organised by the Confederation of Finnish Industries. The two sides framed the visit around the strategic partnership on digitalisation and sustainability agreed in March 2026 by President Alexander Stubb and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and around the forthcoming EU–India Free Trade Agreement.
“There are numerous technology companies in Finland that develop world-class digital and sustainable solutions,” said Puisto, pointing to clean energy and environmental technology as areas where Finnish expertise aligns with India’s growth targets. Finance Minister Purra said the strategic partnership, combined with the EU–India trade deal, would make it possible to double bilateral trade by 2030.
The visit produced two memoranda of understanding: one between Business Finland and the Confederation of Indian Industry, and another between the Confederation of Finnish Industries and its Indian counterpart, both aimed at deepening commercial cooperation ahead of the trade agreement’s entry into force next year. On 17 July, Goyal was due to visit Finnish technology and engineering companies including Nokia, VTT, KONE and Kemppi Group.
For Finland, a Baltic Sea state expanding both onshore and offshore wind, closer trade ties with India offer a larger export market for its clean-energy and environmental technology sector. Goyal’s European trip also took in Spain and Belgium, underlining the push to accelerate the EU–India trade relationship.
