The topsides and jackets for the offshore substations OSS Zingst and OSS Darß have left the Netherlands for installation in the German Baltic Sea, the HSI Joint Venture of Smulders HSM and Iv announced on 9 October 2026. The sail-away is a milestone in the delivery of 50Hertz’s OST-6-1 offshore grid connection, which will link the Gennaker offshore wind farm to the onshore transmission system.
The two substations will transmit power from the 927 MW Gennaker wind farm towards the onshore grid. Each has a capacity of approximately 450 MW. The topside and jacket for OSS Zingst departed from Schiedam, while those for OSS Darß sailed from Vlissingen.
The joint venture holds full EPCIC responsibility for the topsides and jackets, covering engineering, procurement, construction, transport and installation, and commissioning. According to the partners, the departures mark the shift from engineering, fabrication and integration at the two Dutch yards to transport, offshore installation and commissioning.
“The sail-away of OSS Zingst and OSS Darß is an important milestone for everyone involved,” said Hans Leerdam, Commercial Director at Smulders HSM. Fedor van Veen, Managing Director Offshore & Energy at Iv, said the project shows what European industrial cooperation can deliver.
For the Baltic, the grid connection is a prerequisite for Gennaker’s output to reach the German system. Installation dates for the platforms were not given in the announcement.
