Swedish marine propulsion manufacturer Berg Propulsion has formalised a service and support partnership with Stone Marine Services (SMS), a Scotland-based specialist in propulsion system repairs and retrofits. The non-exclusive agreement strengthens Berg’s ability to serve customers in the UK and Ireland, markets where the company has focused primarily on ferries and fishing vessels.

The agreement builds on years of informal collaboration between the two companies. Under its terms, SMS engineers can also be deployed on a subcontractor basis in other regions, giving Berg additional flexibility in its global service network. Product-specific training across Berg’s full propulsion portfolio will be delivered to SMS during May and June 2026, with the partnership fully operational by autumn.

“Stone Marine has consistently shown itself as well-matched to the way Berg works as a team, taking the same approach to quality control, service excellence and documentation,” said Jörgen Karlsson, GM for Sales and Service, Europe and Americas at Berg Propulsion. He added that Berg sees strong potential for further agreements of this kind in South America and Australia, reflecting a broader strategy of building local service presence to support growth.

Ryan McIntyre, Managing Director at SMS, said the deal strengthens the company’s capacity to deliver high-quality support to customers, backed by Berg’s OEM parts and advanced propulsion technology. Founded in 1999, SMS draws on a maritime heritage dating to the 19th century through links to the Stone Marine Group, and specialises in propellers, thrusters, steering gear and deck machinery.

The partnership comes as demand for hybrid-electric and fully electric drivetrain installations continues to rise in the UK and Ireland, creating new commercial opportunities for both companies in the growing clean maritime sector.
