The Danish Energy Agency adopts a plan for the future offshore wind farms Kattegat and Kriegers Flak II. This is based on an environmental assessment of the plan and having received consultation responses.
The plan for Kattegat and Kriegers Flak II describes the framework for two future offshore wind farms in Kattegat and the Baltic Sea. These offshore wind farms will consist of wind turbines, cables and electricity transformers and are expected to be connected to the grid at Trige High Voltage Station and a new station in Southeast Zealand.
The offshore wind farms will each have a total minimum capacity of 1,000 MW. The final capacity depends on the winner of the tender.
As part of the process, the Danish Energy Agency has organised hearings and public meetings in 2023 and 2024, where citizens, stakeholders and authorities have submitted ideas, suggestions, concerns and questions to the draft plan and its associated environmental report.
The plan alone does not allow for the establishment of facilities.
The Danish Energy Agency’s decision can be appealed to the Danish Energy Board of Appeal until 11 November 2024.
Plan and summary report
The Danish Energy Agency has prepared a summary report in accordance with the Environmental Assessment Act (LBK no. 4 of 03/01/2023). The purpose of the summary report is to describe how environmental considerations have been integrated into the plan and how the environmental report and the responses received have been taken into account.
The plan and the summary report can be accessed on Danish Energy Agency’s website:
Further process
The tender for Kattegat and Kriegers Flak II Offshore Wind Farm was published on 22 April 2024, with a deadline of 1 April 2025. The winner of each tender will be required to conduct an environmental impact assessment of a specific offshore wind farm.
Onshore facilities
In parallel with the Danish Energy Agency’s planning and environmental assessment process, Energinet will carry out an environmental assessment with associated planning basis of specific onshore facilities associated with Kattegat Offshore Wind Farm and Kriegers Flak II.
