ENERTRAG SE has announced a €1.1 billion investment programme in France, committing to build at least 100 MW of renewable energy and battery storage capacity per year through to 2030. The plan, unveiled at the ninth Choose France summit held at the Château de Versailles on 1 June 2026, targets 1 GW of installed capacity in the country by the end of the decade.

The German energy company, active in France for more than 25 years, will focus on hybrid energy hubs that combine wind generation, battery storage and grid controllability. Two projects illustrate the approach: a 120 MW hub in the Hauts-de-France region — combining two wind farms with battery storage, due to be operational in March 2027 — and a 110 MW hub in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, which will integrate three wind farms with storage capacity. Additional hubs using the same architecture are being developed across France.

“France is one of ENERTRAG’s key strategic markets and we plan to strengthen our presence,” said Dr. Gunar Hering, CEO of ENERTRAG SE. “ENERTRAG intends to leverage its expertise in driven and predictable renewable systems to support the evolution of France’s energy system.”

Vincent Masureel, Managing Director of ENERTRAG France, emphasised the shift taking place in renewable energy development: “The development of renewable energy is entering a new phase in which our ability to integrate generation intelligently into the power grid has become central.” Through its energy hub model, he added, ENERTRAG is addressing the growing challenges of grid flexibility while deepening a presence in France that spans more than two decades.

ENERTRAG currently employs more than 1,300 people and generates around 2,000 GWh of electricity from wind and solar annually. The company has been producing green hydrogen since 2011 and is developing projects totalling over 30 GW across nine countries on four continents.
