Danish wind services company FairWind has secured a 2.5-year operations and maintenance contract with Statkraft, Europe’s largest renewable energy generator, covering two onshore wind farms near Tarifa in southern Spain. The award marks FairWind’s first project with Statkraft and its first O&M term contract in the Mediterranean region.
Under the contract, FairWind will provide preventative and major corrective maintenance at the La Herrería and Pasada de Tejeda wind projects, both located in the municipality of Tarifa. The farms together comprise 34 Ecotecnia 1.6 MW turbines that have been in operation for more than 20 years. Combined, the projects produce 120.3 GWh annually — sufficient to supply around 34,500 homes with clean electricity.
Technicians will be permanently based on site to handle day-to-day requirements. Experienced personnel will be deployed for major corrective work as needed. The maintenance scope is delivered within Statkraft’s overall operational framework and asset management responsibility.
Aitor Diaz de Lezana Fernández, FairWind’s Regional Director for the Mediterranean, described the significance of the contract: “With many first-generation turbines now operating beyond their original 20- to 25-year design life, demand for experienced operations and maintenance support is continuing to grow. FairWind’s track record in supporting legacy assets was central to securing this project.”
FairWind was founded in 2008 and is headquartered in Vejle, Denmark. The company employs more than 2,200 people globally and operates in over 40 countries, providing installation, maintenance, training and lifecycle services for wind turbine assets. The contract follows continued momentum across Europe, with the Mediterranean region — including Italy, Greece, Romania and Portugal — identified as a key growth area.
