Wind power expansion in Germany accelerated markedly in the first half of 2026, driven chiefly by a revival of offshore construction, according to Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) data reported by the IWR press service. New photovoltaic installations declined over the same period.

The offshore comeback follows a strong start to the year, with German wind additions up by almost 50 per cent year on year in the first quarter. Generation is rising too: German wind farms fed 71.66 billion kWh into the grid between 1 January and 9 July, compared with 63.35 billion kWh over the same period of 2025.

Industry signals point the same way. Nordex Group booked 3.1 GW of orders in the second quarter of 2026, up 32 per cent year on year at stable prices, including an order from developer UKA for 100 turbines totalling around 700 MW. Developer wpd secured 156.9 MW in a heavily oversubscribed Bundesnetzagentur onshore tender.

The momentum builds on a record 2025, in which German wind tenders exceeded the 10,000 MW mark. The rebound matters beyond Germany’s borders: offshore projects in the German Baltic and North Seas share installation vessels, ports and suppliers with the build-out under way in Poland and the Nordic countries.
