Dutch maritime heavy lift specialist Jumbo has signed a contract with China’s Dajin Heavy Industry for the construction of two new L-Class heavy lift transportation vessels. Developed entirely in-house, the L-Class continues Jumbo’s practice of incorporating lessons learned from its existing fleet into each new vessel generation.

Each vessel will be fitted with two Huisman 1,200-tonne Heavy Lift Cranes, giving a combined lifting capacity of 2,400 tonnes per ship. The 25,000 DWT newbuilds are energy-efficient and methanol-ready, built to DNV classification standards. Jumbo says the design prioritises high deck strength, large open deck area, deep cargo hold, and flexible lifting performance to meet growing market demand for heavier, more complex offshore lifts.

Jumbo serves cargo and project markets across renewables, offshore energy and subsea, LNG, and floating and rolling stock transport globally. The company is headquartered in Schiedam, the Netherlands.

Delivery of the first L-Class vessel is scheduled for 2028, followed by the second in 2029. No contract value was disclosed.
