The Nordex Group has closed a new ESG-linked syndicated multi-currency guarantee facility totalling €2.475 billion. The five-year facility runs from 2026 to 2031 and, according to the company, offers improved terms including a significant reduction in the cost of financing guarantees.
Guarantee facilities are a standard financing instrument in the wind industry. They are used to provide guarantees tied to customer projects and to cover other contractual obligations across the many markets where a manufacturer operates. Nordex said the larger and more flexible framework would make it easier for its sales teams to convert opportunities into firm orders and to work through its order backlog.
The facility was arranged with three international banks: Commerzbank as bookrunner and facility agent, Intesa Sanpaolo’s IMI CIB Division as global coordinator, bookrunner and sustainability coordinator, and UniCredit Bank as bookrunner, documentation agent and process coordinating agent. Commitments came from a total of 15 financial institutions. Freshfields advised Nordex, while Clifford Chance advised the lenders.
“After fundamentally strengthening our balance sheet, the successful operational realignment to industrial performance levels and the achievement of our medium-term targets, the refinancing marks the holistic completion of the turnaround,” said Dr Ilya Hartmann, Chief Financial Officer of the Nordex Group. He added that the increased volume and improved terms reflected the banks’ confidence in the group’s long-term prospects.
Nordex has installed more than 64 GW of wind turbines in over 40 markets since 1985 and reported group revenue of around €7.6 billion in 2025. The Hamburg-listed company employs more than 11,100 people and operates plants in Germany, Spain, Brazil, India and the United States, with a product portfolio focused on onshore turbines in the 4 to 7 MW-plus class. For the Baltic region, where onshore repowering and new build continue across Germany and Poland, the manufacturer’s financial stability is relevant to project delivery timelines.
