The fiftieth turbine was installed at the Kriegers Flak offshore wind farm. The project is carried out by Vattenfall in the Danish part of the Baltic Sea.
According to the industry media, thanks to the installation of the 50th turbine with a capacity of 8.4 MW, the total capacity of the installation already exceeds the capacity of the country’s largest offshore wind farm – Horns Rev 3 (407 MW), which is also owned by the Swedish company. Installation of the turbines started in January 2021. According to the investor, at the end of April, 36 out of 72 planned turbines (132 km²), which started to generate energy, were installed. According to the schedule, the last turbine is to be installed by the Jan De Nul team in mid-June 2021. In addition, approximately 170 kilometers of submarine cables will be installed to connect the offshore wind farm to the Danish electricity grid.
The farm is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2021 at the latest. Upon completion of the project, Kriegers Flak will become the largest offshore wind farm in Denmark. The installation with a capacity of 605 MW will produce energy that will meet the annual energy demand for over 600 thousand households in Denmark.
The main base for construction facilities is Port Roenne on the Danish island of Bornholm. Siemens Gamesa’s wind turbine components are shipped from mainland Denmark. In Roenne, the individual parts are assembled. In sets of four wind turbines they are loaded on board the installation vessel Vole au vent Jan De Nul.
According to Wind Europe data, at the end of 2020, the total installed capacity in offshore wind farms in Denmark amounted to 1,703 MW, which gave it fifth place in Europe in this respect.
