Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego, together with the Ministry of Climate and Environment, has launched a call for applications for loans from the National Recovery Plan (KPO) for projects related to energy transition, including the construction of renewable energy sources and energy storage facilities. Over PLN 7 billion has been earmarked for this purpose. Private and public companies are eligible to apply for loans.
The new instrument is part of the Energy Support Fund (FWE) established in September 2024 by the Ministry of Climate and Environment, implemented with funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO). The call for applications announced today launches a new component of the Fund – loans for energy transition – for which PLN 7 billion has been earmarked.
– We are accelerating the energy transition. We are changing the law and committing huge financial resources to support this process. The Energy Support Fund is PLN 70 billion, which will significantly accelerate the process of energy transition, network modernization, and the construction of energy sources. Today, we are announcing a call for applications for PLN 7 billion in support for large investments in renewable energy sources, the construction of storage facilities, and heating and gas networks. These are, alongside energy distribution, key areas of the energy transition. Low-interest loans, which are not available on the commercial market, will help finance investments that will contribute to improving the quality of life of Poles, including lowering energy prices, reducing emissions, increasing the share of renewable energy sources, and improving energy efficiency – said Paulina Hennig-Kloska, Minister of Climate and Environment.
– We have seen how necessary it is to support the energy transition with funds from the National Recovery Plan in the example of the loan instrument for power grids, for which we have received loan applications for over PLN 160 billion. We also expect a lot of interest in the call for proposals opening today. We hope to finance really interesting and comprehensive projects that will enable the further transformation of the Polish economy and increase its competitiveness – as stated by Prof. Marta Postuła, First Vice-President of BGK.
Support will be provided for investments aimed at increasing energy efficiency, as well as the construction of renewable energy sources, both in the electricity and heating sectors, the construction of energy storage facilities, infrastructure for the production of biomethane and renewable hydrogen, and the construction and modernization of heating and gas networks.
The aim of the support is to accelerate the decarbonization process by moving away from fossil fuels in favor of zero-emission and renewable energy sources, integrating RES into the power system, as well as improving energy efficiency and developing green industry and innovation.
Both private and public companies can take advantage of the loan. The minimum loan amount is PLN 200 million. Loans can cover up to 90% of net investment costs, and funds will be available until 2029 (with the possibility of settling projects until 2031).
Energy Support Fund
Established by the Ministry of Climate and Environment in September 2024, the Energy Support Fund is part of a broad ecosystem for financing Poland’s energy transition, which involves funds from, among others, the National Recovery Plan, the Modernization Fund, EU funds, and the FEnIKS program.
To date, a total of approximately PLN 40 billion has been allocated under the FWE for the development of power grids. The total budget of the Fund is PLN 70 billion.
