Swedish defence company Saab has signed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement in the naval domain with PGZ Group, Poland’s largest defence corporation. The agreement covers service and lifecycle support for surface vessels and submarines, integration of PGZ’s naval entities into Saab’s supply chain, and joint pursuit of export opportunities for surface and underwater platforms including rescue vessels.
The two companies also plan to establish an Underwater Technology Centre in Poland and will jointly evaluate production and marketing of Saab’s Autonomous Ocean Drone, as well as explore cooperation on a heavyweight torpedo programme. The agreement builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed at the MSPO defence expo in Kielce in September 2025 and a subsequent agreement on submarine maintenance, repair and overhaul within Poland’s Orka submarine programme, signed in March 2026.
Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab, said the partnership signals a deepening industrial relationship: “This agreement reflects a strong commitment to a deepening partnership between Polish and Swedish industry, while also contributing to enhanced security in the Baltic Sea and NATO’s eastern flank.”
The companies are also exploring collaboration on defence solutions for multi-domain operations and production of mortar munitions in Poland. PGZ Group represents the core of Poland’s domestic defence industrial base, with subsidiaries spanning shipbuilding, electronics, ammunition and armoured vehicles.
The agreement is among the larger bilateral defence industry partnerships in the Baltic Sea region in recent years, coming at a time when both Poland and Sweden — which joined NATO in 2024 — are investing heavily in naval and coastal defence capabilities along the eastern flank.
