Qualitas Energy has secured contracts for three onshore wind projects with a combined capacity of 113.2 megawatts in Germany’s May tender round, extending the investment platform’s expansion in the country’s wind market.
The three projects, located in Rhineland-Palatinate and Lower Saxony, comprise 16 wind turbines. Once operational, they are expected to generate enough electricity to supply around 75,000 households. The auction was again heavily oversubscribed: against a tendered volume of 2,495 megawatts, the Federal Network Agency received 628 bids totalling 6,409 megawatts — more than two and a half times the available capacity. Awards went to 270 bids worth 2,499 megawatts, with successful prices between 4.44 and 5.19 cents per kilowatt-hour and a volume-weighted average of 5.06 cents.
“The award of 113 MW in a fiercely contested tender underlines the strength of our platform, the execution capability of our team and our long-term commitment to the German market,” said Johannes Overbeck, chief executive of Qualitas Energy Deutschland. He added that the projects would support the build-out of onshore wind and a more resilient energy system.
Qualitas Energy holds a portfolio of more than 100 wind projects in Germany, a pipeline of 3 gigawatts in advanced development and over 1 gigawatt in construction or operation. Founded in 2006, the platform has invested more than 14 billion euros in renewables worldwide and manages 11 gigawatts across wind, solar, hydro, storage and biomethane in markets including Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy and Poland. The repeated oversubscription of German auctions signals persistent competition for onshore capacity across the Baltic region’s largest wind market.
