Spire Capital Partners (SCP) has announced its latest investment, acquiring a controlling stake in Bioseco, a pioneering company in bird protection technology for wind farms. With this investment, Bioseco aims to accelerate the deployment of more than 200 new bird protection systems by 2025, expanding its reach in international markets.

Bioseco, a Polish company founded in 2013, has established itself as a global leader in innovative solutions that protect birds from collisions with wind turbine blades. The company’s technology plays a crucial role in ensuring that renewable energy development aligns with environmental protection, particularly safeguarding endangered bird species.

Strategic Investment for Growth

“Bioseco perfectly fits into our investment strategy. Being one of the world’s technology leaders operating in the environmental protection industry, it primarily supports the development of renewable energy sources in a truly sustainable way. Bioseco’s products facilitate the work of wind farm operators and support biodiversity – they protect endangered bird species. We are confident that our investment will contribute to Bioseco’s further dynamic growth,” said Daniel Dąbrowski, Investment Director at Spire.

Spire Capital Partners, a Private Equity fund with a focus on high-growth technology companies, sees this acquisition as a strategic move to advance Bioseco’s product innovation and enable its expansion into new markets. Spire’s financial backing will allow Bioseco to strengthen its position in the growing renewable energy sector.

Innovative Technology Driving Sustainability

Bioseco’s advanced bird protection systems help wind farm operators address environmental challenges in a cost-effective way. The company’s technology reduces energy production losses that occur when turbines are periodically shut down to protect endangered bird species. Instead of lengthy shutdowns, Bioseco’s system enables automatic, short-term pauses (lasting only a few minutes), activated by machine learning algorithms that detect when birds are at risk of colliding with turbines.

The technology also allows wind farms to be built in areas that were previously off-limits due to high bird populations. By mitigating environmental risks, Bioseco opens up new opportunities for wind energy development in these sensitive locations.

With systems already operational in countries like France, Spain, and Poland, Bioseco has proven its effectiveness as one of the leading solutions for balancing renewable energy production with environmental protection. Its clientele includes some of the largest international energy companies, underscoring the trust in its innovative solutions.

Expanding Global Reach

Adam Jaworski, CEO of Bioseco, emphasized the importance of this partnership with Spire Capital Partners. “Thanks to Spire’s investment, we will be able to accelerate the development of our technologies even further, which will enable wind farm operators to optimize energy production, limiting turbine shutdown times and regulatory compliance to a minimum. We will also support them in the construction of new projects in locations previously less accessible. These aspects are extremely important at a time when RES (renewable energy sources) is becoming a pillar of global energy policy,” he said.

By the end of 2024, Bioseco will have nearly 300 bird protection systems installed worldwide. The company plans to add another 200 systems by 2025, focusing heavily on international markets. Currently, around 80% of Bioseco’s revenue comes from customers outside Poland, reflecting its growing global presence.

In addition to its work with wind farms, Bioseco is also preparing to commercialise its bird monitoring system for airports, following successful tests at Gdansk airport.
