The Baltic wind energy community will gather on 9 April 2026 at the ATTA Centre in Riga for WindWorks 2026, the sixth annual conference dedicated to the development of wind power across the region.
Organized jointly by the Latvian Wind Energy Association, the Estonian Wind Power Association and the Lithuanian Wind Power Association, the event is expected to bring together leading policymakers, industry experts, investors and technology providers to discuss the next phase of the Baltic wind sector.
Different starting points, shared ambitions
Over the past decade, the Baltic States have taken different paths in developing wind energy. Lithuania has emerged as the regional leader, reaching approximately 2,500 MW of installed wind capacity. Estonia follows with around 700 MW, while Latvia remains at an earlier stage with approximately 137 MW currently installed.
While the pace of development varies, the Baltic countries share a common opportunity: transforming the region into a major hub for renewable energy generation in Northern Europe.
Unlocking the Baltic wind opportunity
The Baltic region possesses some of Europe’s most promising wind resources. The Baltic Sea offers excellent conditions for large-scale offshore wind projects, while many onshore areas still remain underutilized.
However, realizing this potential will require closer regional coordination. Industry experts highlight the importance of regulatory frameworks, strengthening grid infrastructure, conditions for projects’ bankability, accelerating electrification, expanding energy storage, and building a regional supply chain for wind technologies.
If these elements develop together, the Baltic States could not only meet their own growing energy needs but also become competitive exporters of clean electricity and renewable technologies.
Key discussions shaping the industry
WindWorks 2026 will address some of the most pressing issues facing the wind sector today through keynote speeches, expert panels and interactive discussions.
Key topics include:
- Policy updates on Baltic wind power development
- The new energy rhythm and its impact on balancing, generation and consumption
- Advancing offshore wind cooperation across the Baltic region
- Wind-powered growth for AI-driven industries, regions and municipalities
- What it takes to develop wind farms in the Baltic markets
- Financing and bankability of future wind projects
- The role of wind energy in strengthening regional energy security
- The strategic importance of ports in the wind industry supply chain
Bringing the Baltic wind community together
Beyond the discussions, WindWorks 2026 aims to serve as a platform for building partnerships, sharing expertise and strengthening cooperation across borders.
The conference will bring together a wide range of stakeholders, including wind industry professionals, policymakers, investors, environmental organisations and representatives from academia and research institutions working on wind technologies and impact assessments.
As the Baltic energy transition gains momentum, events like WindWorks play a crucial role in connecting the people and ideas needed to accelerate renewable energy development across the region.
