Nine projects and individuals have been named finalists for the 2026 European Sustainable Energy Awards (EUSEW Awards). Public voting is open until 31 May, with winners announced at a ceremony in Brussels on 9 June 2026.
The awards cover three categories: SMEs Driving Energy Efficiency, Local Energy Action, and Women in Energy.
SMEs Driving Energy Efficiency
The three finalists are Ener2Crowd, an Italian crowdfunding platform for energy efficiency projects in buildings and industry; Water Horizon, a French company offering mobile battery-based cooling solutions that capture and redistribute waste heat; and RE-LEAF, a Belgian organisation that links mortgage finance with building renovation advice to address energy poverty.
Local Energy Action
The finalists in this category are Vienna’s 100 Projects Phasing Out Gas programme, which supports fossil gas phase-out in existing buildings; MultiHome, a platform facilitating energy renovation cooperation in Plovdiv, Bulgaria; and Nova Energia Osona, a community energy project in Spain that brings together local authorities and energy communities.
Women in Energy
The three finalists are Suzanne Renard, who runs a national network in France funding citizen-led renewable energy projects; Dr Nadia Horstmann, who works on energy regulation at Germany’s Bundesnetzagentur and is active on gender equality in energy at EU level; and Donna Gartland, who works on Ireland’s transition to low-carbon heat.
