1. The wind power is the second most desired form of electricity generation in Finland
According to the Energy Industry’s annual Energy Attitudes Survey, wind power is the second most desired of all forms of electricity generation. More than 70 percent of respondents are in favor of increasing the use of wind power.

2. The preliminary feasibility study for ELWIND – a Latvian-Estonian offshore wind farm will be developed
A public procurement notice for the construction of an Estonian-Latvian offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea has appeared in the Estonian Public Procurement Register. The tender concerns the implementation of the ELWIND feasibility study.

3. Denmark announces new Power-to-X strategy
The Danish Government has released a proposal for a new strategy to promote and navigate the future development of Power-to-X (PtX) projects in Denmark. The Danish PtX strategy aims at reducing CO2 emissions, balancing the Danish power system and providing export opportunities for green fuels and PtX technology.

4. Lithuanian government strengthens communication of first offshore wind farm
“Offshore Wind Park” is a strategic investment of Lithuania. Implementation will significantly increase the country’s energy security by reducing the country’s dependence on energy imports. The Ministry of Energy has just launched a page where it presents the most important information about the project.

5. Mike Crawley, CEO Northland Power: One of the big drivers of growth will be the energy security concern
We spoke with Mike Crawley, CEO of Northland Power, on the occasion of his visit to Poland in October, during which the selection of Vestas turbines for the Baltic Power project and the construction of an installation terminal in Świnoujście were announced. The Canadian company he heads is one of the most experienced developers of offshore wind farms in the world. Together with PKN Orlen, it is developing the Baltic Power wind farm project. During the lengthy interview, we talked about, among other things, where the offshore industry is, what the market growth factors are, where the main bottlenecks are, and how to meet growing expectations from the European Union and member states for more and more capacity from offshore wind farms.

6. The first Arcadis Ost 1 XXL monopiles set sail for Roenne
The first three XXL monopiles for the Arcadis Ost 1 Offshore Wind Project have been completed and have set sail for the Port of Roenne, the Arcadis Ost 1 wind farm marshalling harbor. This is the first set of 28 monopile units (27 WTG, 1 OSS) that will be transported to Roenne over the next months where preparations for the installation of the offshore wind farm have begun.

7. The Marienborg Declaration: Baltic Sea Countries declare more cooperation in offshore wind
On 30 August 2022 the Heads of Governments and Energy Ministers of the 8 countries around the Baltic Sea signed the Marienborg Declaration. They committed to new volumes for the build-out of offshore wind in the Baltic Sea and agreed to cooperate more closely on it and on energy more broadly

8. Baltic Power signs contracts for the construction, supply and installation of offshore substations and wind farm foundations
Baltic Power has signed contracts for the construction, supply and installation of offshore substations and foundations for a wind farm located in the Baltic Sea. According to the agreement, some of the components necessary for the foundation of the towers for the turbines will be manufactured in Poland.
9. OX2 plans to build Aurora, an offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea in the Swedish economic zone
RES developer OX2 is planning to build an offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea in the Swedish economic zone. The Aurora wind power plant will be located 20-30 km off the coast of Gotland and Öland. Its capacity may reach 5.5 GW, while wind turbines – 15-25 MW.

10. Ocean Winds was awarded a positive environmental decision for the BC-Wind offshore wind farm
Ocean Winds, an international company dedicated to offshore wind energy and created as a 50-50 joint venture by EDP Renewables and ENGIE, received for its BC-Wind project in the Baltic Sea a so-called “Environmental Decision” that successfully completed the environmental impact assessment process.

11. Latvia will increase energy independence, less bureaucracy for wind projects in predicted
Latvia plans to implement new regulations that will accelerate the pace of development of wind farm projects. The government’s plans were announced by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Artūrs Toms Plešs, during a press briefing on March 21. A special law will be drafted for this purpose.

12. Polish-Lithuanian alliance – Polenergia and Green Genius join forces in offshore wind sector
Polish energy company Polenergia S.A. has agreed key terms of a joint venture (JV) agreement with Lithuanian company Modus Energy AB (operating under the Green Genius brand) to develop offshore wind farm projects in Lithuania.

13. Hansa PowerBridge submarine cable will connect Germany and Sweden

14. Poland’s first Executive MBA program for the offshore wind sector launched
March 25 marked the launch of the first Executive MBA program for the offshore wind energy industry in Poland, at the Gdynia Maritime University. Education of Polish offshore leaders was undertaken by the Offshore Wind Energy Center, also in Gdynia. BalticWind.EU will support the organizers as a media partner.
